About Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist NYC
Our History
The Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist NYC has been a vital part of the community for over 100 years. Initially, we were a small group of believers gathering in homes and visiting other Christian Science churches in New York City. Eventually, we established our own church to prayerfully support healing in the Morningside Heights / Columbia University neighborhood, making us a cornerstone of the Christian Science Church NYC community.
Architecture
The original Seventh Church, completed in 1920, was a classical revival structure with an unusual windowless facade, equipped with a 19-rank W. W. Kimball Co. Organ.
In 1990, Seventh Church opened a new edifice with a unique post-modernist design, including a large round window giving a view into the reading room from the street and filling the church with light. The new organ is an Austin instrument with 16 ranks and 947 pipes.
